Abstract
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationship between burnout and resilience in clinical nurses, and moderating effects of self-efficacy and social support in this relationship. For this purpose, we surveyed 127 nurses who had worked for more than a year in positions below head nurse at one general hospital. Our hierarchical regression analysis found that self-efficacy had a moderating effect on the relationship between burnout and resilience. It means that when nurses have more self-efficacy, there is significantly less negative effect of burnout on resilience. Social support also had a moderating effect on the relationship between burnout and resilience. It means that the more social support nurses have, the less the negative effect of burnout on resilience. With these results, authors suggested that EAPs (Employees Assistance Programs) for improving clinical nurses¡¯self-efficacy and social support should be introduced in order to alleviate the negative effect of burnout and build their resilience.
